Thought I'd make this a topic on its own because it will involve some back and forth.
How about making VS an invite only site? It entices people to want to find a way to join, and will make sure that people stay active. Say for instance every time your work gets featured in the VS HoF, you win a tournament, or make a thousand posts you get an invite. Everyone starts out with one invite, and they will be pretty hard to come by. This way only good members that stay active will be invited (people wouldn't want to waste it).
Also, more strict of rules could be enforced. You have to at least login once a month or something of that or your account will be disabled.
Another thing, I think the only way this could work is by having a highly organized way of doing it, and if nobody else was willing to do it, I definitely would.

I see your opinion on this... Though, I think a thousand posts is a bit too much of a limit, for the moment... I also think, that registrations should be "opened" during "random times" of the month (assuming this goes in place) just so you're not completely limiting people from the outside group...
That'd be another issue...
Invites would essentially be left to a persons "inner" circle, limiting the factor of great members possibly roaming around, looking for a great community. Through further thinking, possibly groups, related only to VS, possibly an elite invite only group, in which you participate in, by being a member of VS...
Eh, I'm not sure....
But good suggestion imo.

This isn't encide, this is an open graphics community. I'm sorry, but this will never happen, no matter what. If we ever considered an invite only forum, a new forum would be made, because, as mentioned - this is an open graphics community.. there's enough invite-only forums as there is.

Newbies would never learn anything if that happens ...

The reason Encide is invite only is because they already had an established group of members and their members have huge networks of friends always looking for a sweet place to join. Furthermore, Encide is for making already good designers better.
Making VS invite only...haha for one nobody will bother joining and two that's just copying Encide.

Making VS invite only...haha for one nobody will bother joining and two that's just copying Encide. That's like saying Ford is copying Honda because it uses a wheel. It's just a motivator to get people to try to get into the forum.

I concur, it's not copying encide at all really, but I guess it'd look like that in a way.
However, this isn't really open for discussion, it'll never happen.
So I'm locking this.

adding to what has already been said with my privilege of being an admin I can reply to locked threads I see points for and against, but VS was never going to be a limited community, we always prefer open community to closed ones. It allows for more expansion, more fame, + i think a nicer community really. Sure you get the people that are a pain in the ass occasionally, but most people join because they want to, not for the prestige of joining, + neither myself nor Sunjo are good enough to really help pro designers out since I'm like.... novice and Sunjo is inter, we could never achieve a society designed on making good designers better.
