GFXR does/did the same thing
You'll have to have a higher amount of members, and then think about how many of them will be willing to pay...
the way the votes are atm, 50% will pay, then you have the issue of, many of them won't be too great at design and won't want to enter etc, so you'll end up getting knocked down to around 20% assuming that some people won't want to enter every time.
In all 20% of members would be willing to take part IMO (random figures obvs)

I like the rankings idea, so like, you can't compete in a lower division but you CAN compete in a higher divison.
And I like the idea of other prizes too. I remember I was on a fairly big forum, and some places donated things as long as the forum made them an affiliate or had an advertisement somewhere. Like, one example is a subscription to deviantArt, etc.

If I could honestly afford to pay an entry fee, I actually more than likely would. But at this current time in my life, as you all know, I simply can't afford it. I know $2 isn't much, but it's a lot when you don't have it.

Just to add another thing, yes I would pay but I only would if I knew that everyone else in the competition has, also maybe the person who comes in second can get the usual stuff that the 1st person would get? So both 1st and 2nd get a banner, they both get featured, or whatever you want. I just think if first prize is the only prize you get and people dont get first prize then that could make them not enter as well.

I think me and Sven could deal with advertising it.
The main issue is knowing what % of people would actually be interested.

Nah, don't make it donations. There have been some good ideas, such as the splitting of the classes, but no rankings. It would be self advisable which one you enter, prizes would be divied accordingly. Like, Noob tourney would be free entry, small prizes (like exclusive brushes, etc). Then Advanced etc would be entry fee + money rewards. I mean, as I said in the original post, this is just calling for expressions of interest. Details like this can be sorted out after the poll is closed. We will leave it open for a little longer, maybe untill I get home this afternoon which is in 7 hours, we might leave it 8 or so. We shall see

The point with money-based wagers is simply that most of us know who we are better than and at what. When I enter a Tourney I look at who is competing and can, in advance, figure out my placing.
So if I see somebody more skilled than I what incentive is there for me to pay money to lose to him/her when I can just challenge them for free in the battle boards, see if I beat them there, then depending on the results, go into the tourney.
Stuff like that.
The resource idea is very nice but it would DEFINITELY have to be the relinquishment of all rights.
For example, if the required buy-in is an Icon Set, and 16 people enter.
Oh God I would be in that tournament so fast to get full rights to 16 icons sets...
But how do we control quality? For example, I can go ahead and half-ass the design for 20 icons, submit them, and then say I win the tournament and get the Icons of someone who worked their butts off.
It's all so confusing.

These kinks can be worked out, trust me. This is an idea. It looks like we will run the tournaments without prize money, and with at the same time.
As the poll is split 50/50, these ideas will be formulated over the next few days by myself and Sunjo. I don't think that we will get anymore votes.
So this thread is locked and the decision is that:
Tournaments will take place instead of an SotW, however, prizes are still to be discussed with the possibility of running a free tourney and a paid tourney.
Thank you for your input.
