Warning, if there is any point that I seem brash, angry, hateful, condescending or arrogant within this post, it is purely in the notion of making a point understood across a broad array of people. This post has been put into place due to the general trend that we have noticed, not because of any members in particular.
Ok, so I hate to be the one to do this to Varia Studios, we have been courteous and let it pass by without much talk. Then people got sick of other members talking non stop about stuff that was frankly, just downright wrong.
As a result, Varia Studios will be having a set of policies that people must adhere to without exception as of Friday the 10th of April 2009, yes Good Friday.
These policies will be enforced mercilessly by all staff members including the moderators. There are no exceptions, if staff abuse this, then they will be demodded immediately. If members abuse these policies, warnings will be increased.
We are doing this to keep Varia Studios forum clean of spam, TOS violations and anything that is filth from the internet, keeping things peaceful so to speak.
For the majority of you, your posting habits will not change, these are just policies that we thought we would never have to specify, however, it appears that we must.
Section 1:
Proboards.com has a Terms of Service agreement as to which by creating this forum, Varia Studios adheres to and all members also agree to adhere to, it is the moderators duties to enforce these within limitations.
There are several areas that I wish to highlight.
If anyone is caught promoting their personal use of Marijuana or other illicit drugs banned by the State of California and US Federal law, they will be dealt with, harshly.
I believe personally that Alcohol, Sex and Nudity can slide, everything else is in force.
Section 2:
We have several systems in place that we expressely forbid the abusing of. When originally released, we believed that not abusing the system was fairly obvious, that these systems were set up for reasons to help the community of Varia Studios as a whole, and not the individual.
Reputation - The reputation system is one that we designed based on the original default karma system with some slight modifications. It was designed specifically to give a representation of the user's character and contributions.
Exalt/Smite trading is strictly prohibited as that gives no indication of your character or contributions to the forum. To organise an exalt/smite trade with another member, or creating a new acount is counted as system abuse. Games involving the smiting of the posted before also comes under the banner of system abuse, we do not wish to list all of the possible circumstances, so think. With this system, is what I'm doing showing my contributions and character? Or am I abusing this privelege.
The rewards that we give for reputation earners comes from mine and Sunjo's mutual respect for the person who is popular enough, devotes enough time and gives Varia Studios quality contributions, not people who cheat the system.
That is all for the time being, this post can be updated at will by the Staff given due notice to the members who have every right to terminate their agreement with these policies at any time.
Staff members have the sole disgretion to terminate our service to any member at any time, with a given valid reason for the termination of your service.
When we originally created Varia Studios we had one policy, and that was to use common sense. We believed that the people who would be part of this community that we have grown to love would be mature and show respect to each other that is deserving. That when people register on this forum, who they are on others is left there - without bringing past reputations, current reputations or possible future reputations here.
We believed that people would respect the space of each other, that people would respect new comers to this forum that are not part of the veteran members elite cirlce. We believed that the community would flow around one another and that while there would be some disputes, these disputes would be resolved quickly and maturely through PM systems or external messaging systems rather than an immature public display.
We believed that people would respect other people's religion, ethnicity and moral grounds. That continual racist comments, religious or anti-religious comments and moral showboating, would not exist. We believed that we were an art group, nothing more, nothing less.
We believed that artists cared about the work they produced, that they could debate their views, ideals and opinions about what they wanted through the freedom of expression and speech. Where they could come and learn from each and every member present here on this forum.
We did not believe that people would belittle each other, would be constantly searching and seeking for favour from other members, or causing problems just for argument's sake.
We believe in maturity, we believe that the majority of people at this forum express maturity, however, these policies have been set in place so that people can see we are serious about what we do here. We are serious about our practice of art, leave your emotional issues at the login button, leave your racist and anti-religious views at the login button. Talk about civilised topics, talk about art, but most importantly we request that everyone has some good clean fun around here.
Remember, our policy is still to use common sense when posting, still to think quality over quantity and always contribute something to every discussion. Try your hardest not to insult, and always back your points up. Do not resort to childish or immaturity well below your years.
And remember, this is the internet, sarcasm or 'joking' behaviour is difficult to distinguish from serious and non - sarcastic comments. There is no tone here, if you are posting a racist comment, but jokingly, or you are posting a funny comment about illicit substances. Think what it would read like to someone who could not see the smile on your face as you are typing.
That is all.
